The 2010 season will bring a change in the structure of the baseball program. I will be taking on the responsibilities of tee ball through the minor league. Balancing the duties within the program should be a positive change that will allow the Senior Baseball Commissioner and myself to concentrate our efforts at each level and not overwhelm any one person. The philosophy within the baseball program has not changed. We will be working closely together to ensure that everyone is on the same page and will continue to build the program from the bottom on up.
I feel real fortunate to be returning to the Youth League as a board member and look forward to serving the baseball program. We currently have great coaches at each level, several parents that volunteer a lot of their time, board members that are supportive and helpful during activities, and have the continued support from the Legion Coach, High School Coach, and players from their teams. Of course we will be looking for more people to step up this year and help in any way.
The major league and minor league teams will continue to participate in Cal Ripken league baseball. They will play league games against Pine Forge and Antietam. In addition, we will also have tryouts for tournament teams. The tournament teams will require not only a commitment from each player, but also a commitment from the parents. Every year we run a tournament for each age group and parent commitment is necessary to ensure we pull off the BEST tournament around.
The instructional program will continue to play league games against Earl Township and Antietam. At this level we will play coach pitch as well as kid pitch baseball. In addition, we will once again host our instructional tournament and we will play in a few other tournaments as well.
Tee-ball is where it all begins. Number one, we need to make sure this is FUN for the kids but it is also a very important stage in their development.
We will start winter workouts in late January and they will continue through March. I will be providing everyone with lots of information pertaining to the upcoming season at registration.
